The Transcription Factor MafB Antagonizes Antiviral Responses by Blocking Recruitment of Coactivators to the Transcription Factor IRF3
Higher expression of transcription factor MafB in human pancreatic islet beta cells might increase cellular vulnerability to viral infections associated with the etiology of type I diabetes. [Nat Immunol]
Apoptosis Threshold Set by Noxa and Mcl-1 after T Cell Activation Regulates Competitive Selection of High-Affinity Clones
Here, researchers showed that upon T cell activation, the proapoptotic molecule Noxa (encoded by Pmaip1) and its antagonist Mcl-1 were induced. [Immunity]
Interleukin-1(Beta) Selectively Expands and Sustains Interleukin-22+ Immature Human Natural Killer Cells in Secondary Lymphoid Tissue
Researchers demonstrate that the IL-1 receptor IL-1R1 was selectively expressed by a subpopulation of immature natural killer cells that localized proximal to IL-1(beta)-producing conventional dendritic cells within secondary lymphoid tissue. [Immunity]
Eosinophil Differentiation in the Bone Marrow is Inhibited by T Cell-Derived IFN(Gamma)
Researchers found that CD70-transgenic (CD70TG) mice, which have elevated numbers of IFN(gamma)-producing effector T cells in the periphery and bone marrow, are almost devoid of eosinophilic granulocytes. [Blood]
Endogenous Dendritic Cells Mediate the Effects of Intravenously Injected Therapeutic Immunosuppressive Dendritic Cells in Transplantation
Using prototypic in vitro -generated maturation-resistant dendritic cells (MR-DCs), researchers demonstrate that once MR-DCs carrying donor-antigen are administered i.v., they decrease the direct and indirect pathway T cell responses and prolong heart allograft survival, but fail to directly regulate T cells in vivo. [Blood]
IL-17 Immunity in Human Type I Diabetes
In this study, researchers show upregulation of Th17 immunity in peripheral blood T cells from children with type I diabetes. [J Immunol]
Immune Dysregulation by the Rheumatoid Arthritis Shared Epitope
Researchers conclude that the shared epitope acts as a potent immune-stimulatory ligand that can polarize T cell differentiation toward Th17 cells, a T cell subset that was recently implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis. [J Immunol]
Four and a Half LIM Domain Protein 2 Is a Novel Regulator of Sphingosine 1-Phosphate Receptor 1 in C-C Motif Chemokine Ligand 19-Induced Dendritic Cell Migration
Results identify four and a half LIM domain protein 2 as an important novel regulator of dendritic cell migration via regulation of their sensitivity toward environmental migratory cues like sphingosine 1-phosphate and CCL19. [J Immunol]
Engraftment of Cells from Porcine Islets of Langerhans and Normalization of Glucose Tolerance Following Transplantation of Pig Pancreatic Primordia in Nonimmune-Suppressed Diabetic Rats
Here, in rats transplanted previously with E28 pig pancreatic primordia in the mesentery, researchers show normalization of glucose tolerance in nonimmune-suppressed streptozotocin-diabetic LEW rats and insulin and porcine proinsulin mRNA-expressing cell engraftment in the kidney following implantation of porcine islets beneath the renal capsule. [Am J Pathol]
Independence of Exogenous Insulin Following Immunoablation and Stem Cell Reconstitution in Newly Diagnosed Diabetes Type I
Researchers conclude that at least temporary independence of exogenous insulin can be achieved in type I diabetes patients following immunoablation and reconstitution of the immune system with autologous PBSCs. [Bone Marrow Transplant]
